The total maintenance a home treadmill needs is under an hour a year. Skipping it is the single most common reason a machine dies before it should.
Almost every treadmill that fails early fails for the same reason: friction between the belt and the deck went unaddressed until it pulled the motor and the controller board down with it. Lubrication is a ten-minute job that most owners never do once, and it is the highest-return maintenance task on the machine by a wide margin.
